Dawn Oman, a Métis artist born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, is a direct descendant of Chief Snuff, Chief of the Yellow Knives, one of the signers of the original Treaty 8 with the Government of Canada. The recipient of both the Peoples Choice and Artists Choice Awards at the Great Northern Arts Festival inInuvik, Dawn’s art was chosen by the Royal Canadian Mint for the Festivals of Canada Series silver 50 cent collectors coin. In 2006 four of Dawn’s works were chosen by unicef to appear on their winter line of greeting cards. Dawn’s MoonDance design was chosen for the 2008 Arctic Winter Games special commemorative presentation pins and for the backdrop for the AWG posters.
